The Real Difference

Who Profits When Your Server Dies?

This is the honest argument for managed IT and it has nothing to do with feature lists. Under hourly billing, every failure at your business produces an invoice at ours. Nobody is sabotaging anything, but the incentives point the wrong way: there is no financial reward for preventing the problem that would have paid well to fix.

A flat monthly fee inverts that completely. If your server fails, that is our weekend and our cost, not an extra line on your bill. Suddenly the boring preventative work — patching, watching drive health, testing restores, replacing hardware before it dies rather than after — is in our interest as much as yours. That alignment, not any particular software, is what makes managed IT worth paying for.

The second thing it fixes is subtler. Hourly billing puts a price on asking a question, so people stop asking. Small oddities go unreported for months, and small oddities are how big failures announce themselves. When calling costs nothing extra, you hear about the strange noise the first week instead of the morning the drive dies.

Included

What You Get Every Month

📡

24/7 Monitoring

Servers, workstations and network equipment watched around the clock, so a failing drive, a full disk or a backup that stopped running raises a flag we act on — rather than becoming the surprise that closes your office on a Monday.

🔧

Patching & Updates

Operating systems and business software kept current on a schedule, because most exploited weaknesses are ones the vendor already fixed. Handled quietly rather than left to whoever happens to notice a restart prompt.

🛡

Security

Endpoint protection, access control, and the ongoing work of removing accounts that should no longer exist. Layered rather than dependent on one product. More detail on our cybersecurity page.

💾

Backup, Monitored and Tested

Off-site copies isolated from the network paths ransomware travels, checked daily, and restore-tested rather than assumed. See backup and recovery.

Help Desk for Your Staff

Somewhere for your people to call that is not your office manager. Remote first, on site when it needs it. No per-incident billing, which is the point — see IT help desk.

📞

Dealing With Your Vendors

The genuinely tedious part: internet provider, phone system, practice-management software, the printer contract. We make those calls and sit through those hold queues so you do not have to.

Honest Limits

When You Shouldn’t Buy This

Managed IT is not right for everyone and we would rather say so than sign you up and disappoint you. If you have three computers and call for help twice a year, a monthly fee is worse value than paying our hourly rates when something breaks. Do that instead. You will spend less and we will still pick up the phone.

It also is not right if what you actually want is a single project delivered — a move, a server replacement, a network rebuild. That is project work, quoted as project work. And if you are a larger organisation needing formal shift coverage, multiple engineers on call, and guaranteed contractual response times, an operation with more staff than ours is genuinely a better fit. We would rather tell you that than overpromise.

Where it makes real sense is the middle: a business with enough technology that failures hurt, staff who need somewhere to turn, and an owner who would rather have a predictable monthly number than an unpredictable annual one.

Getting Started

How Onboarding Works

1

We Look at What You Have

How many machines and users, what servers and applications, what state the backups are in, and what keeps going wrong. That assessment is what the monthly figure is based on — nobody can quote this off a price list.

2

Document and Stabilise

Getting everything written down — what exists, how it connects, which licences and warranties are live — and fixing whatever is already broken or unsupported. Often the most valuable month of the whole arrangement.

3

Monitoring Goes On

Around-the-clock watching starts, patching moves to a schedule, and your staff get told who to call. From here most problems surface as something we contact you about rather than the reverse.

4

We Review It With You

What broke, what is ageing, what should be budgeted for next year. The point is that hardware replacement becomes a planned purchase at a price you chose, not an emergency at a price you did not.

FAQ

Managed IT Questions

What does managed IT cost?

It depends on how many users and machines you have, what servers and applications are involved, and what condition things are in. That is why we assess before quoting rather than publishing a per-seat figure that would be wrong for most businesses. What you get is one flat monthly number with no per-incident billing.

Are we locked into a long contract?

No multi-year commitment. The arrangement is meant to work because it works, not because you cannot leave. If it stops being worth it to you, we would rather part on good terms and keep helping hourly.

Does this replace our internal IT person?

Usually not — it supports them. One person cannot cover holidays, illness, or every specialism, and they generally welcome having monitoring running underneath them and someone to compare notes with. If you would rather we took it all on, that works too.

Is there a minimum size?

No hard floor, but there is a point below which hourly is honestly better value for you. If you have a handful of machines and rarely call, we will say so. See the rates page.

What isn’t included?

Hardware and software purchases are quoted separately — the monthly fee covers looking after your equipment, not buying it. Large projects like an office move or a full server replacement are also quoted on their own. You will not find those buried in fine print.

How long does onboarding take?

Days rather than months for a typical small office, and we work around your hours where the work would be disruptive. The documentation and stabilisation stage is the bulk of it.

Do you cover after-hours emergencies?

Yes. Monitoring runs around the clock, and after-hours or weekend call-outs are available as emergency work. The aim of the monitoring is to make those calls rare.

Want a Real Number?

Tell us how many people and machines you have and we’ll look properly before quoting. If hourly suits you better, we’ll tell you that instead.
