Walk through any office park off Colonial or Metro Parkway and you’ll find the same thing under half the desks: a dusty tower some vendor installed six years ago, humming away, doing email. Those towers are coming due. Windows 10 support ended last fall, and plenty of Fort Myers businesses are still working through the replacement cycle one machine at a time.
Here’s the thing though, you don’t have to replace a tower with another tower. A mini PC for the office handles what most desks actually do all day, browsers, email, QuickBooks, Teams calls, in a box about the size of a paperback that straps to the back of the monitor. We pulled together four picks at four budgets, all in stock on Amazon this week with real prices we checked ourselves.
How to pick a mini PC for the office
The 2026 rule is 16GB of memory, no exceptions. 8GB machines choke the moment someone has QuickBooks, a browser full of tabs, and a Teams call going at once. Every pick below has at least 16GB.
Past that, count ports before you compare processors. Figure out how many monitors each desk runs and check the back of the box for enough HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. Check the Windows edition too. Some mini PCs ship Windows 11 Home, which is fine for a solo shop but a problem the day you want machines joined to a domain. And if your people float between rooms all day, a small desktop is the wrong tool, a laptop still wins there. We covered those in our business laptops under $1,000 roundup.
One more point that matters in Southwest Florida: power draw. Most of these boxes sip 15 to 65 watts where an old tower pulls 250 or more. Hang one off a decent battery backup and it rides through an afternoon thunderstorm outage without breaking a sweat. We wrote up the UPS picks for storm season back in May.
Beelink MINI S13: the front desk box (about $358)
The S13 runs Intel’s N150 chip with 16GB of memory and a 500GB drive, and thats the whole pitch. It isn’t fast on paper. It doesn’t need to be. For a reception desk that lives in a scheduling app, a patient portal, or a point of sale backend, it does the job silently and takes up zero desk space. You also get two 2.5G ethernet jacks and WiFi 6, which is more network than most front desks will ever use.
Two things to know before you order. It ships Windows 11 Home, so plan on a Pro upgrade if your office runs a domain. And the listing showed limited stock when we checked, Beelink restocks these regularly though.
GEEKOM A5: the one for most desks (about $439)
If you’re buying five machines for five ordinary desks, buy this one. The A5 pairs a Ryzen 5 7430U with 16GB of memory you can upgrade later and a full 1TB drive, and it ships with Windows 11 Pro already on it. No upgrade dance, joins your domain out of the box. GEEKOM backs it for three years, which is longer than most of this category.
List price is $549 but it was selling at $439 when we checked, and it dips like that often. At that money there’s not much argument left for a refurbished tower.
GMKtec M6 Ultra: for the heavy multitasker (about $546)
Amazon files the M6 Ultra under gaming. Ignore that, the hardware is why it’s here. A Ryzen 7 7640HS, 32GB of DDR5, USB4, and outputs for three 4K displays make it the right box for the person in your office who lives in forty browser tabs and two spreadsheets at once. It also carries dual 2.5GbE jacks, handy if a machine needs to sit on both the office network and a separate camera or lab network.
The tradeoff is the 512GB drive, half what the cheaper A5 gives you. If that person works out of cloud storage anyway, it won’t matter.
Minisforum UM790 Pro: the power desk (about $809)
This is the box for the desk that used to justify a workstation tower. Ryzen 9 7940HS, 32GB, a 1TB drive, and the port selection is the real story: two USB4 and two HDMI 2.1, so it’ll drive four displays without an adapter in sight. The bookkeeper with the four monitor setup, the estimator running light CAD, the person who edits the occasional marketing video, this is their machine.
It costs more than some full towers. It also outruns most of them, in a case you can hold in one hand.
What about Macs?
The M4 Mac mini is the obvious pick for a Mac shop and we wanted it on this list. When we checked, Amazon’s new unit listings had gone third party only with no clean buy option, so if your office runs Apple, order the mini straight from Apple and skip the marketplace roulette.
